12/14/00Terribly sorry about the lack of updates! There has been a huge snowstorm here in Michigan, and not to mention there hasn't been a lot of metal news. Metal News Bloodstream is looking for a bassist. Applicants must be "seriously into Metal and willing to practice in Bradford at least twice a week." Bloodstream is planning on recording a full length in 2001. Borknagar now has a picture disk available of their new album, "Quintessence". It is available to order from Century Media. Corrosion of Conformity's Reed Mullin will not be able to perform the upcoming US tour, due to massive back problems. Says Reed: "Years of physical therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractors didn't help me much, so a couple of months ago I went to see a specialist at Duke University's neurology department. They took x-rays and a M.R.I. which showed swelling & cervical disk damage (and that at one time i had actually broken my back and it healed improperly!). I don't have any idea how or when i broke my back... however the cause of my pain has been isolated. ...hopefully I'll be able to tour again. When... I dunno." 12/7/00I've updated the Album Update section... on to the news: Metal News Arch Enemy is back in the news today. On their website they have posted a studio diary, which they have already updated twice. Surprisingly, not a word has been uttered about Johans departure. 12/5/00Metal Rumors Word has it that Nevermore's upcoming US tour will include swedish death metal masters Dark Tranquillity! This would be fitting, since Nevermore took Dark Tranquillity's place on the In Flames tour when they had to drop out. I'm trying not to keep my hopes up, in case this is just another rumor. 12/4/00Wow. This weekend I went to one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. Shadow's Fall, Nevermore , and In Flames. All bands were so damn awesome, but it was Nevermore that completly blew me away. Never have I seen a band so heavy, so flawless. Jeff Loomis didn't miss a note, not even in the ultra-complex "The River Dragon Has Come" solo. Warrel Dane's voice was totally flawless, and no, he didn't have any missing teeth (ha ha). Anyways... on to the news: Metal News You're probably tired of Arch Enemy news, but here is some more: Even though Johan has left the band, they are still going into the studio to record the new album. With what vocalist, you may ask? Guess we will have to wait! (Damn!!) Nevermore has announced a tour of the US, in which they will be headlining! No official statements as of yet for who will be touring with them. The voting is over, and it is decided that Dragonlance will be a subject of one of the songs in Blind Guardian's new album! Yay! Big update on Control Denied's new album. It will be titled "When Man and Machine Collide". When asked about the new album, Chuck Shuldiner says: "This album will NOT contain any guest rappers, 7-string guitars, baggy pants or any other elements from so-called "New Metal". CONTROL DENIED is NOT a power metal band and it is NOT a side project. This album will crush those misconceptions completely! I believe more than ever that this album will embrace my musical past while once again taking a step forward into the future. This is something for all true metal fans" There is no set release date, although Chuck is aiming for a May 2001 release, and it will be a digipack double album! 11/30/00Metal News Its official, vocalist Johan Liiva will be leaving swedish death metal band Arch Enemy. There will be an official statement from the band on the website soon. On the other hand, black metal gods Borknagar have hired in a new vocalist. Here is the official statement from the band:
"We are proud to present our new vocalist! You might have heard of him before, as his name is Vintersorg... From this day forth he will take on the duty of being the new permanent vocalist in Borknagar. The collaboration is based on mutual musical interests, visions and friendship. We are sure Vintersorg will fit the role as our vocalist perfectly. Fans of the band Vintersorg should not worry, as this will not interfere, stop or cripple this band in any way. Borknagar is currently working on new material for an upcoming album. No date is set at this point, but an estimated studio time is spring or early summer next year. This being the main priority, we also plan to do some live-shows. More details to come." Black metal fans are in tears with the knowledge that Emperor will no longer be playing live shows. The band says they have too many side projects and have no time to do anything but focus on studio efforts. (All I have to say is that their studio efforts better be flawless! ~Tony) |
